'shit' used to be a super bad word, but now people freely use it as an adjective to describe almost everything. I used to think (i still do) that 'damn' should never be used, yet i hear it from everyone nowadays. Even my best friends.
Fine, use them as adverbs or adjectives to "decorate" your sentences if you please, but please don't use NOUNS! Cuss words when used as nouns, become naming words. To label someone with "you piece of shit" or "you a_____" or "you b_____" is what I hate to hear the most. It is an attack on one's character, a direct hurt on the person, and a disappointment to the ones you love. It isn't even as bad as being offensive, it just stabs a person in the heart with hurt.
James 3 - Taming the Tongue
v9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness.
v10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.
v11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?
v12 My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
Although I never use cuss words, I believe I have unintentionally said words that have hurt other people too. That, I ask for forgiveness. I have learnt that one must be sensitive to different people and their different tolerant levels. Jokes carried too far can be destructive at times.
However, does it mean that one can never joke? I once said that it's important to " Mean what you say and say what you mean". So does it mean joking is wrong? Or does it mean that there should be a limit to how far one can go? JOKE JOKE JOKE. sianz... how can one be both fun-loving and not be allowed to joke at the same time? Can one use a cuss word as a joke? I think not...
